One mistake can cost 8 weeks
DUO says EU student-finance replies usually take about 8 weeks. If evidence is missing or weak, the back-and-forth can stretch the process again.
Check your eligibility, understand which DUO applications or Dutch benefits may fit, and prepare your next step before submitting. No commission. No hidden cut. No DigiD password sharing.

Why readiness matters
DUO and benefits applications are free. The hard part is knowing your route and avoiding avoidable delays when every review cycle can take weeks.
DUO says EU student-finance replies usually take about 8 weeks. If evidence is missing or weak, the back-and-forth can stretch the process again.
Students often do not know which route fits, which benefit to check next, or what each authority actually decides.
Percentage-based services can take a painful cut from money meant for rent, groceries, tuition, and study life.
Your money should stay yours. Fixed fee. No percentage cut.
If your study, residence, and work situation qualified earlier in the current academic year, DUO may still award student finance for those past months. We reconstruct the timeline month by month and identify periods that may still sit inside an official application window.
What the official window actually is
DUO allows student finance for past months back to the start of the current academic year: 1 August for MBO and 1 September for HBO or university.
If an EU/EEA/Swiss/UK student was denied but later obtains evidence that they worked enough, DUO says they may reapply for the previous school year by email before 1 April of the following calendar year.
Check the EU reapplication ruleThis is not an open-ended “last X years” claim. The student travel product cannot be awarded retroactively for months that have already passed.
Rules last checked 2 July 2026. DUO makes every final decision.
